Certificate in Education:
Participatory Development (CEPD)
The Certificate in Education (CEPD) was conceived to support and build capacity among people already working in their communities/in community development. It also offers an alternative access route to tertiary education at the university. An NQF Level 5 qualification, students do not need a matriculation exemption to be accepted, although applicants should be involved with – or have experience of – community development work. The course covers many aspects of adult education and community work, including theory, practice, and a challenging service learning component, the Development in Practice (DIP) module.
Many CEPD applicants are unemployed or work as volunteers, and thus struggle to pay university fees. The CAE is able to offer partial bursaries to deserving students, thanks to the generous and sustained support of DVV International.
