Vaughn John is the longest serving member of the Centre in Pietermaritzburg, which he joined in 1988. Much of his current involvement is in formal courses, including the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Adult Education) and the Masters in Adult Education. Vaughn has also co-developed a Peace Education course for community development workers and an Honours/Masters course in Peace Studies. As a member of the Standards Generating Body for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace Education, he has been involved in generating conflict resolution standards. Research is the other main area of Vaughn’s work and he has been involved in projects for the National Department of Education, the Department of Land Affairs and the Constitutional Assembly. Vaughn’s interests are in researching learner support in distance education, teaching peace education and research methodology.
