FET College Sector
Researcher: Zanele Buthelezi butheleziz@ukzn.ac.za
The FET College Sector is a little-researched field of adult education. CAE staff member Zanele Buthelezi has chosen to make this relatively new focus area part of her academic research. Zanele is registered for a PhD (UKZN), investigating how KZN FET college lecturers have experienced the post apartheid era in their lives and work.
She is also part of a national research project that focuses on FET college lecturers and FET college teaching. The research is being conducted within a research partnership between the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and a range of sub-partners. The overarching aim of the research is to understand how new qualifications and curricula impact on and are in turn impacted upon by the people that are responsible for the delivery of the new curriculum. Zanele has also been commissioned by the HSRC as a researcher in the HSRC FET College Systems Audit, 2010, and was assigned two colleges (Esayidi and Umgungundlovu) where she administered an evidence-based questionnaire and interviewed college management.
